U.S.S. Makin Island

I am a busy bee!!!

I went to San Diego last week to celebrate a historical day in history!

I went to celebrate the commissioning of the U.S.S. Makin Island. You see, my grandfather served on the original Makin Island during WWII. He loaded the guns, worked on the jets and got them ready for the pilots to go back out.
Sitting next to my grandfather during this was....something that words can not describe. I cried. I still cry.

3 generations. The ring on my finger is the ring My papa gave my granma, while he was serving on the first USS Makin Island. And the ring Chad put on my finger at our wedding.

On top of the deck looking at downtown San Diego

They started up the ship. (Lost electricity on the Island, but by-golly the ship was running!)

He was so cute that morning! I wanted to pinch his cheecks, but he pinches back...so I just took the picture instead!

  2. Kristin,
I'm honored that you and your family were there to share the day with us. It was indeed a special day for all of us and made all the more special by the Marine Corps Raiders and Original MAKIN ISLAND plankowners who were there. Best Wishes.
